Thanks to my friends with taste…
…I’m getting to see Garaj Mahal tonight at Yoshi’s :). Featuring the best bassist in the world Kai Eckhardt, guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque, drummer Alan Hertz, and Eric Levy on the keyboard.

Little update on this. It was not Alan Hertz on the drums, the just-as-talented Sean Rickman. I wished someone had taped the show, but I still found a recent show of them. Recorder on January 8th, 2009, in Santa Cruz, CA:

i’m glad you got to see garaj mahal as, yes, they are some of the best musicians in the world! unfortunately, alan hertz is no longer drumming for them, which is devastating to me as they are my favorite band and he is my favorite drummer, but thank goodness for sean rickman as he is amazing too! before they ventured to yoshis in san fran, i saw 4 of their shows here in the northwest from whistler BC to seattle. speakin’ of yoshis, you should check out marco benevento & guests there every tuesday in february. WOW.

True, the drummer was not Alan Hertz. I have to say we were truly impressed by Rickman though!
